Tae-SHS 2 Policy Upscale now available

The Tae-SHS 2 project has taken significant steps toward integrating sustainability into taekwondo and martial arts by introducing a set of comprehensive supplementing documents, designed to transform how martial arts clubs operate in alignment with environmental goals. Building upon the Tae-SHS Policy developed under Tae-SHS 1 project, these new resources—known as the “Policy Upscale”—provide methodologies and detailed guidelines for organizations interested in adopting sustainable practices.

These document offer actionable insights across various aspects of club management, helping clubs not only in taekwondo but potentially other martial arts to establish internal rules that align with the Tae-SHS recommendations. The Upscale Policy empowers clubs to create their own equipment exchange programs, promoting resourcefulness and reducing waste. This section includes step-by-step instructions on how clubs can set up and manage exchanges of doboks and other equipment among members, encouraging a culture of reuse and sustainability.

Beyond equipment exchange, the supplementing documents address key organizational practices that support environmental consciousness. They cover procedures for waste and water management, travel guidelines for events, and methods to develop a “green” framework for training camps. By following these protocols, clubs can align their daily operations with sustainable goals, demonstrating how martial arts can lead by example in sustainability efforts.

Each section of the Upscale Policy is provided in the languages of partner countries—Bulgarian, Greek, Turkish, and Romanian—facilitating widespread adoption.

The Tae-SHS 2 project’s approach, led by the collaborative efforts of partners like TF NSA, SBA, SOAT, ARRT, and BOSKD, reflects a commitment to sustainable change within the martial arts community. By embracing these tools, taekwondo clubs can actively contribute to environmental conservation, encourage responsible consumption, and demonstrate that sport organizations are essential players in the transition to a more sustainable future.
